“Why my memoirs? I wrote them to leave my message for everyone: that dreaming is necessary, that hard work pays off, and that honesty, rigor, and merit are the keys to discovering our possibilities—which are infinite. That poverty, hardships, and ignorance are not inevitable, and that anything is possible if we believe in our dreams. It is also so that history remembers all those men, my friends who accompanied me throughout my journey and helped make my dreams a reality. It is so that history preserves a record of the challenges and the magic of Tunisia in the 1960s, a country that started from nothing and, thanks to the work and dedication of its people, was able to develop a modern industry capable of competing with the most developed countries. It is to proclaim my pride in being Tunisian and that my dream was to elevate our country’s industry to the highest peaks. Finally, it is for all who knew me, particularly my children, grandchildren, and those who will follow, so that they never forget that their dreams are possible.”
